In recent episodes, Santana has struggled with her sexuality.
She admitted that she is in love with Brittany (Heather Morris) but her feelings were not reciprocated.
Rivera has now told the New York Post that she would like Santana to find someone in the third season.
"I'd like to see her explore her sexuality more," she said. "Maybe with people aside from Brittany. I know everyone wants them together, but I think [executive producer] Brad Falchuk put it best when he said that this is about Santana's journey and not so much about her with Brittany. I'd love to see her get a girlfriend and maybe soften up a bit as a result."
Rivera also confessed that she is thrilled she was promoted to a series regular for the second season and now has a major character after initially joining Glee in a small role.
"I never thought this would happen, but I'm just so happy that it did," she said. "It's so shocking to me and very, very flattering that people love me because they love Santana. I feel so blessed."
