Chord Overstreet could be leaving Glee after execs decided not to turn his character, Sam Evans, into a series regular.

Instead, Overstreet has reportedly been offered an occasional guest role in Glee's third season.

The actor, who was introduced as Finn's (Cory Monteith) rival in the second season, tweeted on Friday: "It's been a good year. Too bad it's over. Time for summer and starting fresh."

According to Deadline Hollywood, Ashley Fink (who plays Lauren Zizes) will also have her screen time scaled down considerably.

However, Darren Criss (Blaine Anderson) and Harry Shum Jr (Mike Chang) have been officially upgraded to full-time series regulars.

Fans' fears that Overstreet could be leaving the show were assuaged when Glee creator Ryan Murphy said that the Sam Evans character was not a senior, and would therefore not graduate at the end of the third season.

But the actor recently underwent a dramatic change in hairstyle, a world away from his character's trademark blond locks.
