The actress, who plays Mercedes Jones on the Fox series, surprised fans when she wrote on Twitter after season three filming wrapped that she had "closed a chapter" in her life.
"That's a wrap on Amber Riley," she tweeted. "Just closed a chapter in my life, the only thing I've known day in and day out for three years.
"I'm going to miss the whole Glee family, seeing them everyday! I have so many brothers and sisters now :) But I am looking forward to a much needed and deserved summer vacation! SCHOOL'S OUT Glee Kids! Let's play!"
However, Riley also hinted that her character will return by writing afterwards: "Stay tuned to see what's next for Mercedes ;)."
The future of numerous members of the Glee cast has been in doubt since the announcement that several characters will 'graduate' at the end of season three.
Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn) and Chris Colfer (Kurt) were said to be leaving the show outright, but all have since been confirmed for season four.
Glee star Ashley Finke revealed last month that her character Lauren Zizes has been dropped after being absent for virtually all of season three.
Glee airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Fox, with the season finale scheduled for May 22. The show airs on Sky1 in the UK.
