"I'm doing his other show now - it's the super dark, non-musical version of Glee," Levine joked to E! Online.

"I've talked to Ryan a lot about [appearing on Glee]. We've had multiple conversations about it in the past, trying to find the right thing for it, so hopefully one day!"

Guest stars previously confirmed for the fourth season of Glee include Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex and the City) and Kate Hudson (Almost Famous).

Grammy-winning singer Gloria Estefan has already revealed that she is keen to return as Maribel Lopez, mother of Santana (Naya Rivera).

Glee will return to Fox in the fall, airing in a new Thursday night slot at 9/8c. In the UK, the show airs on Sky1.
