The two characters kissed in the show's sixth season finale and creator David Shore has since insisted that the romance will continue to be explored in season seven.
Edelstein told Entertainment Weekly: "Their dynamic always worked for them. Even though he frustrated her and vice versa, there was a reason they had to be that way with each other in order for him to get the right thing done and for her to give him some boundaries."
She added: "Suddenly that gets very confusing when you're sleeping with somebody."
The actress explained that the two characters "have to find their footing [again]".
She also revealed that she had no problem filming romantic scenes with Laurie for the new season.
"I'm great friends with Hugh," she said. "I'm so happy for that because when you have to be intimate with somebody on screen, it's nice if you know them well and feel comfortable."
The new season of House begins September 20 on Fox.
