When fifth graders Zack and Colleen are caught outside of class and about to kiss, they are sent to the Principal's office, where they find House. Three days earlier, in a scene reminiscent of Pulp Fiction, House and Foreman visit a trio of college students, the roommates of their latest patient. House demands that the students help him hack into a password-protected laptop, but when he shoots one of them dead, the entire scene is revealed to be an exaggerated story being told by House at a school's fifth grade career day.

Back in the present, at the Principal's office, House wants to know why Colleen has a large bruise on her face, but she demands to know why he is in trouble first. Flashing back to his career day speech, which he is giving under the alias of 'Dr Hourani', House tells the class about his recent troubles with Cuddy. He explains that she is frustrated with his constant selfish behaviour.

As House's speech continues, he moves on to the story of his latest patient, a young man who is suffering from breathing problems and coughs up a large amount of dead lung tissue. Though the teacher is keen to move on to the next career day speaker, an advertising executive named Dave, the class wants to know more about House's patient. In a flashback to the hospital, House departs with Foreman to visit the patient's apartment, taking a laptop with him. House explains to the class that the laptop belongs to Cuddy and that he stole it to hack into her journal and gain an insight into her current state of mind.

Back in the Principal's office, Zack explains that Colleen was going to kiss him because she lost a bet that they had made. However, Colleen denies Zack's claim and demands to know exactly why Cuddy was mad at House. He explains that a long list of small offences, such as using her toothbrush and refusing to take out the garbage, have driven Cuddy to breaking point. In return for House's information, Zack reveals the cause of the bruise on Colleen's face, explaining that he accidentally hit her in the face with a puck during a hockey game.

In another flashback, House tells the class that he attempted to hack into Cuddy's laptop while hiding out in the office of another doctor named Hourani. When a student points out that House claimed to be Hourani, he realises that he has made a slip-up. Meanwhile, in the present with Zack and Colleen, House recalls Cuddy's recent claim that he might love her, but his selfishness shows that he does not care about her feelings.

When House finally breaks into Cuddy's laptop and reads her journal, he learns that she wanted her daughter Rachel to attend the elite pre-school at Brye Park. He asks hospital administrator and school board member Sanford Wells to put in a good word, which Wells agrees to, if House will do him a favour and give a career day speech to a fifth grade class. However, on his way to the school, House's car collides with that of Dave, the ad executive, explaining why House gave the fake name of Dr. Hourani.

House: S07E13:House in a fight with another Career Day speaker
Back in the class, following House's slip-up about his Hourani alias, Dave demands to see his I.D. and the pair begin fighting. Following the fight, House is sent to the Principal's office, which takes us to the present. Zack suggests that House should run away as that is what he would do, but Colleen insists that Zack is better than that. In their own flashback, Zack refuses to kiss Colleen, admitting that he fixed their earlier bet. He tells her that he only wants them to kiss when she chooses for it to happen. Colleen tells House, "He's not always a jerk, and neither are you", encouraging him to patch things up with Cuddy.

When the Principal finally arrives, she reprimands House for his irresponsible behaviour. He apologises and asks that she still consider admitting Rachel to the pre-school, as he needs Cuddy in his life. In the office, House spots a school poster for a production of 'The Princess and the Pea' and finally realises that his patient's chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) was caused by a small piece of dislodged food, likely a pea.

As the episode concludes, House apologises to Cuddy for his recent selfish actions. She invites him over for dinner and he produces his own brand-new toothbrush, which he plans to bring over.
