The Knocked Up actress will appear in the medical drama's eighth season as a junior doctor who joins House's diagnostic team.
"We saw some of her stand-up and she is a quirky, interesting individual," Shore told TV Line. "Yet [she feels] real and sympathetic."
The showrunner added that Yi's character will have roots in the "Old World".
"We had been thinking of [introducing] a character who comes from [that kind of] background, and she seemed perfect for it."
Cloverfield actress Odette Annable will also appear in the new season of House as a prison doctor who later joins House's team.
Shore previously revealed that Annable's character will have "a bit of a connection" with House (Hugh Laurie).
House will return to Fox on October 3.
