The 32-year-old, who plays Jason Stackhouse on the popular HBO series, said that he prides himself on the fact that his role speaks in "half-sentences".
He told People: "There are a few models for Jason, and I like to keep them to myself. I think everyone that watches the show knows someone that is a facet of Jason's personality.
"If people want to read George [W.] Bush into him, I think that's fine."
Kwanten recently claimed that co-star Anna Paquin has had to film more nude scenes than him for the show's second season.
