Dean instructs Sam to watch Brennan while he investigates the crop circles. Arriving at the field, Dean receives a call from his brother, who is watching Brennan drink heavily in a local bar. Dean begins to hear strange noises and a bright light appears above him, shaped like a flying saucer. As he runs, Dean cries out to Sam that he is experiencing a close encounter. The bright light catches up to Dean and he disappears in a flash. Seemingly unconcerned, Sam finishes his drink at the bar. Sometime later, Sam arrives at the field to find Dean's discarded cell phone. He discovers a camp nearby full of alien-related paraphernalia and populated by believers. However, Sam is quickly distracted by the attentions of a pretty young girl.
Hours later, Dean is returned to the same field, screaming and firing his gun. Returning to the motel room, Dean discovers Sam in bed with the pretty girl. As the girl rushes out, a furious Dean demands to know why Sam has not been searching for him. Believing that he was missing for an hour, Dean is shocked to discover that he has suffered a "time slip" and that it is now 4am. Dean claims that he fought off the aliens and avoided their invasive probe, but is still shaken enough to need an immediate shower. The next morning, the brothers sit in a bar, as Dean struggles to come to terms with the existence of aliens. As Sam attempts to pick up a waitress, Dean becomes irritated with his brother's distracted behaviour. Dean spots a strange man outside the bar staring at him, but Sam cannot see the figure, who promptly vanishes.
As the brothers leave, they spot Brennan lifting crates of cream into the back of his car. Sam follows the watchmaker while Dean breaks into his shop. Inside, Dean discovers a group of miniature people working on repairing the watches. As Dean escapes, he spots the strange man from outside the bar, who follows him. Meanwhile, Sam confronts Brennan, revealing that he knows about his deal with the fairies. Brennan admits that, after being struck down by Parkinson's disease, he used a magic spell to summon a leprechaun, who provided the army of fairies to take over his work. In return, the fairies now steal away first-born sons. Brennan explains that the magical book contains a spell to dispel the fairies, but is now locked in a safe, which the creatures keep guarded.
Unconvinced, Sam shoots Whittaker with iron bullets, but the leprechaun recovers and attacks him. Meanwhile, the strange stalker materialises in Dean's prison cell and assaults him. As he recovers from Whittaker's attack, Sam pours a vial of salt on to the ground. Forced to count the grains, Whittaker is effectively paralysed and Sam is able to complete the reversal spell. The fairies, including Dean's attacker, all blink out of existence.
As the episode concludes, the charges against Dean are dropped and he is freed. He asks Sam about Whittaker's offer to restore his soul, but Sam is convinced that making a deal with the leprechaun would have been a bad idea. Dean is concerned that his brother is having second thoughts about getting his soul back. While Sam denies this, a look of uncertainty passes over his face.
