Light Summary: A young couple is murdered in their home shortly after buying an antique painting of a family portrait circa 1910. Upon reviewing the painting’s provenance, Sam and Dean learn that everyone who has ever bought the painting has been murdered and race to discover how the portrait is causing the deaths before it can claim its next victim.
Full Summary: A couple who have recently bought an old painting from a charity auction are murdered in their house. All the doors and windows are locked from the inside. What killed them?
Sam and Dean read about the killings in the local paper but unfortunately for Sam, Dean's mind is on something else…
The boys investigate the house. There's no EMF reading and the house itself is empty. They head to the auction room where the contents of the murder house are about to be auctioned off.
Dean urges Sam to take Sarah, the daughter of the auctioneer, on a date in a bid to gain more information. Sam soon realises that they have more in common than he originally thought.
The provenances reveal more than the sibling bargained for – exact date matches with their father's journal. It's the 1910 painting which is the common denominator in the killings.
That night, Sam and Dean head to the auction house to put and end to the painting – it seems their best efforts aren't good enough.
Sam can't believe his eyes when he notices the painting is in its original state. A trip to the local records office helps the pair in their investigations – there's something dramatically different from a picture of the family in a history book compared to the painting itself.
Meanwhile, Dean is adamant that Sam should hook up with Sarah. One of the things holding him back is, of course, the death of his ex-girlfriend, Jessica. When he speaks to Sarah, however, she's the last thing on his mind –he needs the address for whoever they sold the painting to.
The painting's claimed its next victim. Sam and Dean, along with a steadfast Sarah visit the scene to look at the painting again. There are more things than originally noticed that are different about the painting.
Sam and Sarah have a heart-to-heart while they wait for Dean to return with information. Will Sam finally give in to his feelings and allow himself to get close to another girl?
Meanwhile, the boys have bones to burn… But the ritual doesn't seem to be enough – the little girl from the painting is still on the loose. Will they destroy her spirit in time? Or will there be more death in the Winchester family?
