Somerhalder: 'Diaries is not TV's Twilight'
Published Friday, Sep 11 2009, 17:37 BST | By Tim Parks

The 30-year-old was cast on the vampire series in May as Damon Salvatore, one of two bloodsucker brothers who compete for the affections of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev).
The former Lost star said that he overcame his wariness of being likened to the blockbuster film after he read the script for the pilot, which is based upon L.J. Smith's novels.
He told TV Guide: "[I initially thought before reading the script that] it was like, 'Oh wow, it's Twilight on television'. Kevin Williamson (Vampire's executive producer) reinvented television for teens.
"His ability to mix these two genres is what makes it different."
