She will take on the role of Isobel, a dangerous woman married to history teacher Alaric (Matt Davis).
Parts of the January 21 episode are reportedly being reshot to include scenes featuring Kirshner.
The 34-year-old is also slated to star in 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, due for a 2010 release.
