In an interview with E! Online, the actress explained that Jenna has evolved over the course of the series.
"In the first season, we watched her grow into her own and realise that she does know how to make some smart choices, not only with Elena and Jeremy but with her own relationship issues," she said. "That's carried over into the second season, where she is on good terms with Elena and Jeremy."
Canning added that Jenna will start getting more involved in the show, saying: "In the second half of the season, there is going to be a stronger arc for Jenna. The first part of the second season, there was a lot going on around her that she was unaware was happening.
"She ends up sort of facing the issue head on, when she really feels it's the right time, and then things kind of unravel from there."
