Access Hollywood reports that the actor will play a killer who is stalked by Dexter (Michael C. Hall) in at least one episode of the show's forthcoming fifth season.
The show's executive producer Chip Johannessen previously revealed that the new season would feature a a number of killers instead of one main villain.
Allen was previously a regular on CBS series Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman between 1993 and 1998. He has since made guest appearances on CSI: Miami and Criminal Minds.
The new season of Dexter premieres on September 26 on Showtime.
