'Betty' star pleased with New York move

Ugly Betty star America Ferrera has revealed that she is thrilled with the show's move to New York City.

The actress, who plays lead character Betty Suarez, had previously expressed concerns that the city's residents would not accept the programme. However, she has settled in well over the past few weeks and her fears have now been allayed.

"I love living in New York City," Ferrera told People magazine. "I feel like I was here in a past life."

She continued: "I take the subway all the time. I took the 7 [train] for the first time the other day. I went over to Queens and hung out over the weekend. It was great!"

Meanwhile, native New Yorker Ana Ortiz, who plays Hilda Suarez, revealed that she is looking forward to starting a family with her husband Noah Lebenzon in the city.

She said: "We found a perfect place in Brooklyn Heights. I love the neighbourhood. It's really mellow, gorgeous and a great place to raise a family. I couldn't resist. I'm looking forward to being a mom."

The first two seasons of the hit ABC comedy were filmed in Los Angeles. Producers decided on the switch after New York state and city authorities increased the rate of tax credit for film and TV production work.
