Abdul 'will not guest star on Betty'

Paula Abdul will not be featured in a guest star capacity on Ugly Betty, it has been reported.

The former American Idol judge was rumoured to be in talks about joining the ABC series starring America Ferrera.

Reports had suggested that her role would see her as a new temp at Mode magazine, before befriending Becki Newton's Amanda Tanen character.

However, a representative for the network said that the 47-year-old will not be appearing on the episode, which is to begin filming this week.

"Paula will not be on our show," the spokesman told E!, adding that actress Kristen Johnston would guest star this season, but did not confirm if it was for the part that Abdul was speculated to be in discussions about.

Abdul is said to be considering taking a job as a panellist on So You Think You Can Dance, while judge Mary Murphy earlier challenged the singer to a "dance fight".
