Cast members of the ABC series were at the New York landmark this week to promote the UN Foundation's Nothing But Nets plan, which raises awareness for stopping the spread of malaria by using bed nets, TV Guide reports.
The character of Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) will attempt to work on a Mode magazine cover story about the condition, which gets rejected by editors. However, she then gives it a couture spin and suggests transforming the bed nets into a fashion statement.
"It's really a perfect marriage," said star Judith Light. "Betty Suarez is a person who has a great heart and a great soul.
"So in this story, it's not a stretch at all that she comes from a place that wants to help other people. She's trying to change hearts and minds about the way we all relate to each other."
Co-star Ana Ortiz earlier revealed that Ferrera's character will undergo a transformation during the fourth season premiere on Friday, October 16.
