Vanessa Williams has admitted that she and her co-stars are "devastated" over ABC's decision to axe Ugly Betty.

Last month, the network announced that the show would come to an end after its current fourth season and that the episode order would be cut from 22 to 20.

Showrunner Silvio Horta and ABC boss Steve McPherson said at the time: "We've mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty's final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion."

Williams, who plays Wilhelmina Slater on the dramedy, has since responded to the news, saying: "We're devastated. We're not ready for it to end."

According to The Sun, the 46-year old actress has blamed the recent scheduling change for the Betty's poor ratings.

"We just got on a roll. But they switched nights - people couldn't find us," she said.
