'Amazing Race' producer Jeff Rice reported dead in Uganda

A producer from CBS reality TV show The Amazing Race has been fatally poisoned in Uganda, according to reports.

Jeff Rice is said to have died, while his production assistant - who was also poisoned - is believed to be in a critical condition. The two producers were not thought to be working on The Amazing Race at the time.

Rice's wife Sally Blackman told Fox News: "They were not attacked but [evidence] points towards being poisoned.

"At this stage it is quite difficult to give you any firm reports as the incident is currently under investigation by the Uganda police. I would not like to speculate or even attempt to give my views on this as this may jeopardize the investigation going forward."

Rice, a facilitating producer, owned two independent production companies and had previously worked on shows including Whale Wars and the South African edition of reality weight loss show The Biggest Loser.

He moved to South Africa from the US in 1999, marrying Blackman - with whom he had two young children - in 2001.

A spokesperson for Jerry Bruckheimer Films, which produces The Amazing Race, said that they had "no knowledge" of Rice's death and Amazing Race broadcaster CBS has not yet issued comment.

This series of The Amazing Race features teams travelling almost 40,000 miles across five continents, visiting places such as Paraguay and Azerbaijan for the first time in the history of the show.
