The Vogue editor-in-large will join Banks, Nigel Barker and Jay Manuel for the 14th cycle of the CW show, replacing Miss J Alexander.
Speaking to E! Online, creator and host Banks said that the models "loved" Talley because he displayed his "soft side" with them.
"In the first episode, one of the girls breaks down crying and André was actually the softest with her and, from behind a desk, figuratively hugged her and supported her when she was feeling extremely insecure," she explained.
"I didn't know that we were going to get that from him. You get this fashionista but you also get this, like, dad character."
Talley added: "I can be nice and harsh. Hard is not the word I would use. Harsh, nice, but not the hardest, no."
America's Next Top Model premieres March 10 on The CW.
