Returning to the house after the last panel, Nastasia gets to go into the Tyra Suite since she won best photo. She of course chooses Kiara to share her prize and the two celebrate the victory by doing a lot of shrieking. Meanwhile, in the bathroom in the main part of the house, Laura is ranting to Victoria about how she's normally "laid back" but now she's "over it" and needs to win absolutely everything going forward. Well, yes, Laura, that is sort of the point.
Brittany is sitting in bed, still reeling from Leila's loss. She's also embarrassed that Leila had a higher score on social media and is upset that Bryanboy was "an ass" to her by shaking his head when Brittany was the one who got to stay. She realises that she now has to turn things around. Kristin, however, is pretty happy about the turn of events, as she saw Leila as a major threat, and rightfully so.
That night, Yvonne is "super tired" and decides to give her boyfriend at home a call and let him know how exhausted she is. Victoria observes that Yvonne is second guessing everything and that her head doesn't really seem to be in the game - peanut gallery strikes again! Still, Yvonne has great potential, so hopefully she can get it together.
The mini challenge
Early the next morning, the models head over to Culver Studios where there are cameras, green screens and a sensor-clad Rob and supermodel Christy Tiegen. They reveal that the models will get to bring a video game character to life via movement, gestures and posing while wearing one of the sensored outfits. Taylor Kurosaki from Naughty Dog is there to direct the challenge, and the winner will get to create their own signature taunt to be featured in Uncharted 3. All of that sounded like a foreign language to me - my video game knowledge stopped at Super Mario Bros. 3.
Laura goes first and does pretty well, but her taunt - her special "victory move", if you will - is a bit awkward. Still, Taylor and Christy seem impressed. Kristin is up next and does absolutely awful, though at least she has fun with it, which wins them over. Victoria, meanwhile, is her usually overdramatic self, but her physicality is downright terrible - it gives the judges a giggle, at least. Brittany manages to inhabit the character really well - better than the others, Taylor thinks!
Once all is said and done, Taylor and Christy have to choose their winner (who will also get that $10,000 in their prospective scholarship fund, don't forget), and it's revealed that Laura gets the prize. Christy appreciates that she didn't waste any time adding anything extravagant and really went for it, and Laura is pretty psyched that her taunt will appear in the video game.
After the challenge, Christy sits the girls down to talk to them about the social media aspect that's new to the competition this year. She advises them to stand out, be sweet, don't be fake and also be able to laugh at themselves and not seem like they're taking it seriously, as difficult as it can be. Helpful advice, though not necessarily rocket science.
Back at the house that night, Victoria and Nastasia's scores have put them at the bottom of the leaderboard. Victoria doesn't know what she could have done differently, since she hit all of her marks. Even Brittany, who came further up on the leaderboard, is confused as to why she didn't do better because she wanted to win. Well, who didn't? In order to deal with overwhelming emotion, Victoria calls her mum, telling her that she can't taste food without her. That sounds like a problem. I hope the producers encourage Victoria to seek some therapy, in all seriousness, as she obviously has some intense co-dependence issues.
Guess what - it's time for Tyra Mail! It's about to be a "wild wild west" themed photoshoot, so they head over to meet Johnny. He reveals that they'll be shooting underground fashion in the steampunk style and working with photographer Mike Ruiz, who says that the costumes will be "super elaborate", in front of some old trains. Also, they'll be working with a really temperamental co-star, so the models speculate about what wild animal will meet them. Eventually, it's revealed that they'll be shooting with an owl, which - much to my happiness - freaks Kristin out.
Laura is shooting first and all of her shots are coming out really well, according to Bryanboy, who's turned up. Since he's there, Brittany decides to go and confront him about his reaction to her at the last panel. He doesn't particularly apologise, but she comes away from it thinking that she's got pure determination to get through. The fierceness pays off and Johnny is confident that she has a chance to surprise the judges this week.
Nastasia struggles to make her body appear lean, while Kiara seems to do well (though according to the peanut gallery, she's not particularly suited and doesn't bring the right look). Kristin freaks out over the owl and fails to take good pictures because she is distracted, instead looking like she's just standing there.
Yvonne is irritated when she steps in front of the camera and then Johnny and Bryanboy ask her to change her skirt. Her reaction is pretty intense and she has a temper tantrum, cutting Bryanboy off mid-comment. She admits that she was irritated and makes a loud apology which doesn't particularly seem heartfelt. Eventually, she returns with a new skirt, though Johnny can tell in her face that she's annoyed rather than owning it.
Finally, it's Victoria's turn. Dear, sweet Victoria, who has spent her waiting time concocting a background story for her character in which she is a woman whose boyfriend is an animal trainer in the circus. She becomes upset by the way the animals are being treated by him, and then he cheats on her, so she kills him and sets the animals free. Yes, she said all this. Will that work in the pictures? Eh, that remains to be seen.
Following the shoot, Kiara convinces Yvonne to talk to Bryanboy. She promises him that she's not a mean person and didn't mean to offend him or anyone else. Bryanboy is glad that she cleared the air but advised her that in the real world, she won't just be judged on photos and instead on her whole presentation, which she seems to get. She's frustrated that she let her attitude get the better of her and is afraid that she may be going home because of it.
Kiara's photo is up first. Kelly doesn't think it has much energy in the eyes and feels like her face is "stuck". However, Rob likes it and thinks she looks very long and lean. Tyra is also a fan, calling it "strong" and saying that she can see the fierceness. Her social media commentary isn't that great, though Bryanboy is a fan. She gets a 21.
Up next, Victoria. Tyra compares it to her "stunning" photo with Rob from the nude shoot and says that she can do a lot better. Kelly disagrees and thinks she could use the shot for a client, though it's not the best. Rob observes that it's far too safe and Bryanboy reveals that her social media score continues to go down on a weekly basis. She ends up with a 21 as well.
Kelly thinks that Kristin's face is striking, though her eyes are squinty and the rest of her body says "waitress at Oktoberfest", not model. She's losing fans online, too. Rob agrees that she does the same thing every week and is falling flat every week. Tyra says that up close, her face looks good, but it comes off as wooden. She also ends up with a 21.
Nastasia runs into trouble with Kelly for her picture as her body once again does not look long and she doesn't have model proportions in the shot. However, Tyra thinks she looks short but absolutely beautiful. She's gaining momentum online and Bryanboy proclaims her "one to watch". Once again, she ends up with 21.
Yvonne's shot doesn't work head to toe for Kelly as her face is just not coming off the way it should. Rob says that she's pretty but could be doing so much more than she is. She's also losing fans online, Bryanboy reveals. Of course he brings up their fall out at the shoot. Tyra applauds her for apologising but advises her not to react in the future as she's hired to perform and be professional as a model. She sees a model with an attitude problem in the shot. She ends up with an 18 - by far the lowest so far.
Rob thinks that Allyssa's shot is awkward and her face matches. Kelly likes it, though, comparing her to a "twisted Pippy Longstocking". Tyra thinks that her body language is strong but wishes that Kristin's head was on her body. She ends up with a 23, which is pretty good for her and the highest this week.
Kelly says that Brittany is a pretty girl but seems ghost-like in the shot, but Rob disagrees, finding her mesmerizing and stunning. Tyra looks at the photo and feels like a proud big sister, saying she seems like a character in a live Disney film, adding that if she puts this into her photo every week going forward, she'll do really well. Bryanboy says that she's this week's rising star online. She ends up with 24, taking over the lead.
Laura steps forward next. Rob finds her picture really strong and applauds her for being a "sponge" and absorbing everything they tell her each week. Tyra thinks the shot is "crazy" - as in, really good - and that she mastered the "ugly pretty" thing they talk about so often. She adds that they don't really know where to look in the future as she is "giving it" in every aspect of the photo. Her social media side is pretty good, too. She ends up with a perfect 30 - the first of the season!
Now, it's the moment of truth and someone's got to go. Tyra's got a handful of photos but one of the girls before her doesn't have one. But who will it be? The winner this week is, of course, Laura, who will become house president and win the Tyra Suite for a second time. The runner-up is Brittany, who also did a great job. Allyssa, Kristin, Kiara and Nastasia also get their photos, so they're safe. That leaves Victoria and Yvonne in the bottom two.
After adding up their scores, it is revealed that Victoria has managed to stay in by one point, meaning that Yvonne is out. Tyra is disappointed, but she'll have another chance to come back.
"The argument messed up my photoshoot. I'm not blaming him, it's my own fault. I have an attitude problem and it's my own issue. But Bryanboy's not writing me any checks and I think he was rude, so I was rude too," Yvonne says following her elimination. "I don't think anyone ever feels like it's their time since none of us want to go home. I'm sad. We all like each other. I'm determined to do my best and if that brings me back, that's all I can do and I'm more than happy with that."
America's Next Top Model airs Fridays at 8/7c on The CW.
