The 44-year-old firefighter was given the axe from the NBC programme this week after fellow contestant Amanda Arlauskas used her swing vote against him.
Speaking to reporters after the show, he said: "I was a little surprised because Amanda is somewhat of a gameplayer and I was thinking she would want to go for the win.
"But when you are on The Biggest Loser and you get down to that few contestants, nothing comes as a big, big surprise."
He added that he had no regrets about strategically deciding not to win challenges, explaining: "That was just something that I saw towards the end I was going to have to do, to get the focus of the target of my back and maybe on to somebody else's."
The Biggest Loser continues next Tuesday on NBC.
