'Project Runway' winner crowned

Irina Shabayeva has been crowned the winner of the sixth season of Project Runway.

The 27-year-old from New York triumphed over fellow finalists Althea Harper and Carol Hannah Whitfield during last night's episode.

Speaking after the result was announced, she said: "I can't believe it! I'm definitely proud of myself!

"I think this deserves a pat on the back, because I did have some stiff competition."

Heidi Klum had branded her collection "sleek, modern and cohesive" and praised her for telling a story with it and knowing what type of woman she was designing for.

Harper was named runner-up, while Whitfield secured third place.

Shabayeva scooped a $100,000 prize, a spread in Marie Claire magazine and a Paris vacation.

Project Runway airs on Lifetime.
