The 54-year-old was previously confirmed to be replaced by Alexis Bellino during the new season of the Bravo reality series. She will only appear on the show's first three episodes.
This summer, rumours began that the network had opted not to give her a raise and that that was the reason she had quit.
During the fifth season premiere, Keough was shown worrying about finances after her job as a realtor had suffered due to the housing market crash in California.
She told the Daily Beast: "I just didn't feel appreciated by the girls or the network. There's a lot of work that is involved - it's an all-year-round thing with all of the shooting and the press, and [the salary] wasn't enough."
Keough stated that her friendship with castmate Vicki Gunvalson worsened on the series due to financial matters.
She added: "I would have been borrowing money for a week when I didn't want to pay a $200 (£120) late fee for something and she knew I had a check coming."
