An apparently highly-placed source suggested that producers are considering replacing Armstrong because they feel her personal story has become too bleak.
The past two seasons of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills have focused on how she has coped with the suicide of her estranged husband Russell Armstrong and her feud with Brandi Glanville.
"Producers are looking at other options. They feel like Taylor's storyline has become too dark and they need to shake things up a bit," the insider told E! News.
Real Housewives recurring star Faye Resnick and Rod Stewart's wife Penny Lancaster are among the five women who have apparently been approached by producers.
A decision is expected to be made a few weeks beforeThe Real Housewives of Beverly Hills resumes filming in April.
