The bachelorette initially appeared uncomfortable when Brad took her and a group of women to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Monday night's episode of the ABC romance show.
She eventually opened up to Brad about her late fiancé Ricky, revealing that he had been a NASCAR racer until his career ended at the Vegas track following a crash. Brad had offered to end the date but Emily insisted that she wanted to try her hand at racing.
"The hardest part was getting in the car," she said at the time. "The only time I've ever been in another race car was the passenger side when Ricky was driving."
She later added: "I was trying to stay positive and see this as what I needed to move on... Ricky will always be a huge part of my life and I'll always love him but the whole reason I came and did this process was so I could start something new with somebody new."
Emily later told Brad that she was "proud" of herself for taking to the track, and said the whole experience had been "therapeutic" for her.
Host Chris Harrison echoed her thoughts in his post-episode blog for Entertainment Weekly, telling readers that "what you may have thought would be a disastrous situation turned out to be one of the most heartfelt, beautiful moments we've ever had on this show".
He went on to say that the date had been "extremely symbolic and therapeutic" for Emily: "You very much got the feeling that night that a huge weight had been taken off her shoulders, and it seems Emily is really ready to take that next step and let somebody else in her heart."
However, he added that the full story about Emily's past will be something that Brad continues to deal with in upcoming episodes, saying: "This is a lot for any man to handle, and Brad is understandably a little intimidated."
The Bachelor airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
