Brad tells Chantal that he feels comfortable around her, prompting Chantal to joke that they should just get married right now and "screw the engagement". Brad questions if she would actually get married instead of enjoying an engagement, and she says she would. She explains that being engaged, to her, means getting married so she wouldn't get engaged if she wasn't planning on getting married. It's time for the first Fantasy Suite card of the night. Chantal accepts and the pair head into the middle of the wilderness - their home for the night is a treehouse! "I don't want this night to end," says Chantal. "I hope I will be flying home from South Africa with Brad knowing that he loves me and wants to be with me as well."
Over dinner, Brad appears nervous around Emily, while she decides to open up a bit about her feelings. She says she's been "pretty good" at forgetting the other girls but it's becoming more difficult. "I can't separate it anymore," she says. "I'm ready for it to be over and either start my life with you or whatever it is... I don't want you to question anything as far as I go. I'm so excited about the idea of you and I and Ricki." Brad is thrilled and wants to continue their conversation in private at the Fantasy Suite. Emily says that she wants to set a good example for her daughter but also wants to spend more time with Brad. She suggests they use the time to just talk and strengthen their bond. At the suite, Emily admits that she can be bad at discussing her feelings but she wants Brad to know she is falling in love with him. "I didn't expect that at all," he replies. "I'm falling in love with you too and it makes me the happiest guy in the world to hear you say the same thing."
Over dinner, Ashley tells Brad that she thinks they want the same things in life but she has trouble communicating some of her feelings to him. She explains that she wants to be "superwoman" and have a great career and balance. Brad brings up the point that he earlier asked where Ashley wanted to live and she never mentioned Austin, which is where he is based. She counters that she's never been there so it wasn't on her mind. Brad seems to have more hesitations and questions. "Neither of us can build a future that's real on the fact we had an incredible carnival date," he says later. "I still have questions; I don't know if it's because of misunderstandings and that frustrates me. Why are we spending so much time trying to reassure ourselves instead of just going with it?"
The dinner becomes slightly awkward. Ashley says she didn't know Brad had so many concerns, prompting him to say that he thinks she is "one in a million" but he is looking for a future. He privately says he knows his questions are throwing her off, and says she was the woman he cared the most for at the beginning but he needs more. "I want an actual future and relationship." He offers the Fantasy Suite card so they can talk more and she accepts, although Brad privately wonders if he has screwed up their relationship.
Brad asks to speak to Ashley in private, leading her away from Chantal and Emily. He wants to apologise for their date ("It didn't go well at all") and says he is "shocked" that their once-strong relationship has gone in a radically different direction. He knows that he came loaded with tough questions but insists they came from a sincere place. He doesn't understand why they have such bad communication: "At dinner I started thinking here is a woman I could propose to in a week and I don't even know if I fit into your life. I'm sitting here very broken-hearted because I still have questions." Ashley becomes tearful. "I feel we could have had something so good if I had gone into this knowing how to do it better," she says. "There is really nothing I can do now." She suggests she was trying to protect herself, although Brad wonders if she should be doing that so late in the journey. "I need to tell you goodbye," concludes Brad. Ashley says "OK" and stands up. Brad questions if she has anything else to say but she says she's not going to beg him. "This is so surprising to me," she adds. "I thought this was it." Brad says that he is confident in his decision and holds her hand as he walks her to a waiting car.
"I wish I could have smiled and hugged him and been myself but when you have a heavy heart it's hard to find the strength," says Ashley. "It's hard to leave like this. Brad's a great guy and I think we had a great thing; when we were together it was magical for me but sometimes that spark isn't enough. It got lost in translation."
Brad admits that he always thought Ashley would be one of the last two women standing and would meet his family. He decides to go ahead with the rose ceremony because he wants to know if Chantal and Emily will accept his roses. They both do.
