The California-based winemaker declared his love for the model from Arizona in the Swiss countryside.
"What a journey, what a journey," Ben began. "It's been an incredible road getting to this point with you, through all the ups and downs that we've encountered - real signs of what life could be... It always seems like whenever I'm with you I have these incredible moments. I thought to myself, 'I could see myself with this woman for the rest of my life'.
"But I promised myself that I wouldn't get down on one knee again unless I was certain it was forever... and you're my forever. I've waited a really long time to tell that I'm in love with you more than I will ever know, and that this whole experience and journey has been worth it every step of the way."
Acknowledging that she had antagonised her fellow contestants, 28-year-old Courtney said before Ben's proposal: "I know I didn't behave my best with the women, but I never lied about my feelings for Ben... it's just really special to have found this amazing man that could be my husband.
"He is a good guy, I feel like I could trust him and possibly love him forever but it's still really scary, you know. I have had a pattern with men where they appreciate me at first and then take me for granted... I really hope that this doesn't happen with Ben and that our best days aren't behind us."
Ben said that turning down runner-up Lindzi Cox was difficult, describing her as "the woman that I'm in love with".
"The first moment that I met you riding in on that horse, you were all about first impressions... every time I watch you in the room, you just light it up," he told the business development manager from Ocala. "There was a big moment for me... with your family, where I felt like that was where I was at my most vulnerable state... and I saw myself with you in that moment.
"I want you to know that I have fallen in love with you," Ben continued, "but... I need those moments to last a lifetime, and I've found that with someone else. I'm sorry. I'm in love with someone else... I feel this in the pit of my stomach and it's the hardest decision I've made, ever. I'm sorry."
Lindzi initially appeared to take the news well, allowing Ben to walk her back to the helicopter landing pad and embracing him, saying "it'll be okay".
"I'm mad at myself you know, for just not giving you what you needed... I thought I did..." the 27-year-old said afterwards.
"I feel like if he really wanted to make it work with me he would have," Lindzi added after her departure. "It really hurts to have the man you love not love you back. If he does want to marry courtney, I would be completely shocked, he'll look like a total fool."
