The liquor distributor from Long Beach, NY, slurred his words while talking to Ashley Hebert and eventually fell asleep, admitting that he drank too much to calm his nerves.
"I started to watch it and it was stomach turning. I really wasn't able to make it through the whole show," he told reporters on a conference call this week.
McCormack departed The Bachelorette before the first rose ceremony had even taken place after Ashley enlisted the other men's help in moving him from the pool area to a car waiting to take him home.
"I knew there were 25 guys in the room and you have to make yourself stand out. Obviously I stood out and it didn't exactly work!" he told Digital Spy when asked if he'd had a plan to woo Ashley.
"My plan was to get to know her, be myself, laugh, joke and not take it too seriously. I didn't want to do anything too scripted... My whole thought process was to take things and see how it progressed; not just the way she felt about me, but the way I felt about her. Let it progress as naturally as possible even though the circumstances are different."
Looking to the future, the 35-year-old told DS that he was hopeful the incident on The Bachelorette wouldn't affect his dating life.
"You can talk to me in a few months about how much it's affected me!" he laughed. "It's only been a few days as of yet... I don't know how much it will affect my dating life. Hopefully not too much! I'm 35, I can't waste too many more years trying to clean this mess up!"
The Bachelorette's first episode saw Ashley sending home seven men, leaving 18 in the running to win her affections this season.
