Maynard became engaged to Brad Womack on the season finale of The Bachelor in South Africa earlier this year after he chose her over Chantal O'Brien.
The couple chose to stay out of the limelight once the show had wrapped, but announced this week that they had called off their engagement.
Maynard recently taped an interview with The Bachelor host Chris Harrison, to be aired on The Bachelorette on Monday, in which she will discuss her relationship with Womack.
In a preview obtained by Us Weekly, she is seen telling Harrison that she wants to "focus on being a mum" and not worry about who to trust or whether something she says in confidence will become a tabloid headline.
Maynard says: "I think all this attention brings out the worst in people. It's been really hard on me. You don't know who to turn to so you end up staying by yourself and that makes you even more sad."
Harrison recently told readers of his Entertainment Weekly blog that he hadn't foreseen the separation, saying this was an interview he "did not expect to do and did not enjoy in the least", writing: "Both Brad and Emily are friends of mine, and we all really thought the next time we saw them would be to plan their wedding."
He added that Womack was invited to join Maynard at the interview but the bar owner didn't feel ready to talk about the break-up in public yet.
"While he gave his blessing for Emily to speak on their behalf, his emotions are still just too raw and he wasn't ready to speak openly about it all yet," wrote Harrison. "I respect that decision and told him I was extremely sorry we had to do this interview at all."
Recent reports have suggested that Maynard could follow in the footsteps of Ashley Hebert and Ali Fedotowsky and become the next Bachelorette, although ABC has yet to comment.
The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
