He told reporters during a conference call that he rejected "six or seven people per slot" following a surge of interest for the show.
"It's interesting because so many people want to be on the show. After the first success and then the Joan Rivers success, celebrities just want to be on the show.
"I would say probably six or seven people per spot were turned down. We wanted athletes, actors, models, wrestlers... We have a beautiful wrestler and a big wrestler, Goldberg and Maria. Maria is a beautiful woman who's a wrestler with the WWE."
He added that this season will be more fun than previous editions, but said that viewers can still expect the cast to be "tough" and "nasty".
The full lineup is as follows: Bill Goldberg, Curtis Stone, Bret Michaels, Carol Leifer, Sharon Osbourne, Summer Sanders, Selita Ebanks, Darryl Strawberry, Holly Robinson Peete, Maria Kanellis, Michael Johnson, Rod Blagojevich, Cyndi Lauper and Sinbad.
Celebrity Apprentice begins Sunday at 9pm on NBC.
