The two '80s television movies and short-lived series depicted alien visitors coming to Earth under false pretences. The Lost actress had previously told DS that the reboot will preserve iconic moments from the programmes.
The 39-year-old has now said that she feels a responsibility to "not mess [it] up" for viewers with her portrayal of FBI agent Erica Evans.
She told Sci-Fi Wire: "I also feel a tremendous obligation to the people who watched before to not mess it up. So, yes, the memories do come back. However, my character didn't really exist, its a compilation of other characters."
She added: "But I have a little bit of a gift here. I'm able to really love the old and not feel bad about being in the new, so it's good."
It was reported earlier that the show's production had been temporarily halted, though the pause is not expected to delay its November 3 debut on ABC.
