McCarthy is set to play Lily Rhodes' father Rick Rhodes, a music company executive.
The series - centered around a teenage Lily living in 1980s Los Angeles - sees her move in with her sister in the San Fernando Valley after arguing with her parents.
McCarthy, a former '80s movie star, has previously appeared in Lipstick Jungle, Pretty In Pink and Less Than Zero.
It was recently announced that Krysten Ritter is to play Lily's sister Carol.
