The 'Reach Out' singer will appear on the popular teen drama as a movie star named Olivia Burke, says Entertainment Weekly.
Duff will star in a multi-episode storyline, in which Burke enrols at NYU and becomes the roommate of Vanessa (Jessica Szohr).
She is scheduled to make her Gossip Girl debut in the fourth episode of the programme's upcoming season, which will air in the US on October 5.
The 21-year-old was previously attached to NBC comedy pilot Barely Legal. However, the network subsequently passed on it as a regular series.
