Gina Torres cast in 'Gossip Girl'

Gina Torres has landed the role of Vanessa Abrams's mum in Gossip Girl, according to TV Guide.

Torres, who has previously appeared in 24, Alias and Firefly, has reportedly been booked in for at least two episodes on the show's upcoming third season.

Her character Gabriela is described as "warm and outgoing" but with "definite opinions about her daughter".

Gossip Girl's third season is slated to premiere Monday, September 14 on The CW.
