In Brooklyn, Rufus turns up to speak to Vanessa after not hearing from Dan. Vanessa explains that their relationship is better than ever, adding that they had a big talk to discuss everything, including Serena. "From no on, no more secrets or surprises," she adds. Meanwhile, Nate congratulates Dan for sorting everything out with Vanessa and invites them to a mixer at Hamilton House. He reveals that he is planning a romantic night with Juliet afterwards. Dan thanks Nate for inviting him to the mixer, and Nate admits that he has missed him.
Juliet is visiting her brother Ben in prison and reveals that Serena is isolated from Dan and Nate. She adds that she can't split up Serena and Blair just yet as she recently got caught going after Serena. Ben hands over a photo of Juliet and Nate and suggests using him as a fall guy. Juliet asks if he has been spying on her and adds that she is only with Nate to stay in Serena's orbit. Ben reminds her that they agreed not to stop until Serena is left with nothing like he was, and claims that the next thing to take from her is Columbia. Juliet tells him that she knows what to do.
Back at Columbia, Blair arrives to sign up for Miss Chamberlain's lecture series when she spots Chuck. She immediately asks what he is doing, and Chuck explains that he has decided to build a rotunda in memorial of his father on campus. Blair asks what he wants, and he replies: "Last time we spoke I thought I was crystal clear. You took away what I cared about most. To return the favour, I'm going to take Columbia away from you." When he has left, Blair asks her minions to sign her up for the lectures, but asks them to do it quietly so that Chuck doesn't know.
Serena is walking across campus when she receives a Gossip Girl blast suggesting that she has a sexually transmitted disease. Juliet watches on. Vanessa, who is putting up photos in the loft, also receives the text and looks concerned. Later, Serena finds Blair and complains that she just wanted to focus on school. Blair promises that the rumour will blow over, but continues: "Keep your head high. This is our school. We were here first, damn him to hell." Serena asks what's going on and Blair admits that Chuck is at Columbia. She reveals that she is planning to become Martha Chamberlain's student assistant, adding that it will be her "own private island against the storm that is Chuck Bass". Serena is impressed and decides to email her professor and forget about the rumour.
Later, Serena is sitting alone on campus and Juliet approaches her. She promises that she had nothing to do with the rumour and adds that the way their English Lit professor called out Serena in class was uncalled for. She asks if she can help, but Serena explains that she has already emailed him. Juliet repeats that she had nothing to do with the blast, adding: "Believe me, that's the last thing I would have wanted." She adds that Nate is "sort of freaked" and Serena replies that he wouldn't believe it. However, at that moment she spots Nate and Dan heading into the campus health clinic.
Back at home, Serena tells Blair that she is going to meet her professor. Blair announces that they can't let the men of their past define them and they should remain civilised. However, when Serena asks if she has let Chuck have the assistant position, Blair replies: "Civilised, not lobotomised." Miss Chamberlain arrives and Blair immediately explains that she knows about her uncomfortable divorce. She offers to set her up on a date with someone from her stepfather's firm. "I would love to introduce you at Hamilton House," she says. "I'll make a call - if the assistant position is still available." Miss Chamberlain replies that nothing is set in stone. Outside, Serena hails a cab but the man from earlier shows up. Serena insists that she can't be late and offers to give him her schedule so that they can avoid each other. However, the man replies that he leaves at this time on purpose so that he will see her. "Good," Serena replies. "Then I'm taking the cab."
Meanwhile, Dan visits his father and tells him about the rumour that Serena has an STD. He explains that Gossip Girl posted a picture of him at the health clinic and adds that Vanessa thinks something more than a kiss happened between him and Serena. He insists that it didn't, and Rufus tells him that he has to show Vanessa she is the only one he cares about.
Vanessa catches up with Serena on campus and tells her that she needs to know what happened between her and Dan. Serena, who is rushing to meet her professor, suggests that she asks Dan. "I can't trust him when it comes to you," Vanessa replies. Serena complains that Vanessa always believes the worst in people. When Vanessa has left, Serena gets a text from her professor saying: "I waited five minutes. Office hours are over. Buy a watch."
At the Empire, one of Blair's minions visits Chuck. He thanks her for taking up his offer and the girl admits that she is tired of following Blair's orders. She adds: "This will be good practice if I decide to take Blair down myself." Chuck asks what she found out, and the girl hands him an envelope.
Juliet finds Nate and he admits that he won't get his test results for three or four days. They confess that they are both getting frustrated, and Juliet says: "Unless there's another way we can know for sure. Serena must have talked about whether it's true or not." She tells him to forget it and leaves. Outside, Juliet calls Ben and tells him they're almost ready. "I can't just come out and ask him to steal Serena's phone, but trust me, he's right where we need him to be," she says. Juliet spots Vanessa and ends the call. Vanessa admits that she thinks Dan slept with Serena, and Juliet tells her that she has to find out for sure. Vanessa admits that she is ready to do anything. Juliet asks her to call Dan, tell him she wants to talk, and meet him at Hamilton House tonight.
At the mixer, Serena tells Blair that she is going to speak to her professor tonight before checking in her bag. When she has moved away, Vanessa tells the clerk that Serena forgot something and takes her purse. Juliet tells her to check the email. Vanessa admits that she feels uncomfortable but does so and grins when she sees an email from Dan telling Serena that although they didn't sleep together, he needs to show Vanessa he wants to make it work. Juliet asks her to hand over the phone, explaining that Nate used to date Serena too. She suggests that someone's coming and Vanessa goes to take a look. As she does, Juliet quickly sends a message from Serena's phone. When Vanessa returns, she says she wants to talk to Dan but doesn't know what to say. Juliet tells her that she should just take him home and show him she's ready to move on. Vanessa thanks her and tells her that she and Nate make a great couple. "Yeah, we do, don't we," Juliet replies, putting Serena's phone in her bag. Vanessa finds Dan and suggests that they leave. Dan is confused, explaining that he thought Vanessa was angry with him, but Vanessa reveals that they no longer need to talk. She suggests that they eat some free appetisers before leaving.
Meanwhile, Blair approaches Miss Chamberlain and introduces herself as her new assistant. She reveals that the date has arrived and they approach. Miss Chamberlain is impressed with her date's scarf, and Blair replies that their tastes are the same. However, when the date stands up it becomes clear it is a woman. Miss Chamberlain is offended, complaining that Blair must think she is a lesbian because she is career-driven. Blair insists that she set up a different date, but Miss Chamberlain tells her that her class is full "forever" and leaves. Blair turns round and spots Chuck wearing the same scarf as the date. She asks him where Miss Chamberlain's real date is and promises that she can stop playing nice. The pair reveal that they know of various scandals involving Miss Chamberlain, but she hears them talking. "You students are psychotic," she says, adding that she has decided to quit.
Serena finds her professor, who is standing with the dean. She insists that he is doing whatever it takes to succeed at Columbia, but the dean replies: "The email you sent makes that pretty clear." She reveals that Serena sent an email to her professor offering sex for grades. Serena insists that she wouldn't do that but the dean tells her that the consequence of sending such an email is expulsion. Vanessa watches the conversation and pulls Juliet aside, asking if she sent the message. Juliet insists that she didn't, and Vanessa replies that she is going to tell Serena that they had her phone. Juliet tells her not to, explaining that she could get expelled, but Vanessa replies that if she didn't send the message she has nothing to worry about. As she leaves, Juliet slips the phone into Vanessa's bag.
Serena tells the dean and her professor that her phone isn't in her bag, adding that whoever stole it sent the email. The dean claims that it is "hardly proof", but Vanessa and Juliet arrive and tell Serena to call her phone. Suddenly, it starts ringing in Vanessa's bag. She promises that she can explain, but Dan arrives asking what has happened. "She thinks we slept together," Serena says. "You were the one behind the Gossip Girl rumour." Vanessa claims that Juliet is the one who wanted to steal the phone, but Juliet says she refused to help Vanessa. Vanessa claims she is lying, but Nate arrives and says: "Juliet told me before the party she was hoping to talk to Vanessa to calm her down." Vanessa tearfully begs Dan to believe her, but he admits that he doesn't know what to believe. When the others have left, Juliet apologises to Vanessa but says she just had to protect herself.
Later, the dean tells Serena that she believes she didn't send that email but adds: "I can't ignore the level of drama that has followed you to campus and grown even louder." She tells her to rethink her priorities and adds that she is watching Blair as well. When she has gone, Blair tells Serena that Gossip Girl has sent out a retraction and an apology to Serena, adding that the person who started the rumour is on her hit list. Serena admits that it was Vanessa and explains that ironically she has Juliet to thank. Juliet arrives and Serena thanks her for clearing her name. Juliet apologises for her earlier behaviour and asks if she wants to get a drink. However, Serena admits that she just wants to be alone and says she will see her in class. "Don't be late," Juliet smiles.
Blair approaches Chuck and asks what he is still doing here. "I'm not trying to make a point," Chuck tells her. "Whatever you want, wherever you want it, I'm going to be there to take it away from you. I won't stop until you have nothing." He adds that he has no limits because Blair took away his future. Blair points out that destroying her won't make him happy and adds: "The only thing that can make you happy you lost the moment you slept with Jenny Humphrey. And that was the best thing that ever happened to me because I got over you forever." Chuck asks why she hasn't told anyone about Jenny, and Blair tells him not to reveal it. "That revelation would result in mutual destruction," she says. "You may be homicidal but you're not suicidal." Chuck replies: "A man with nothing to live for is capable of anything."
Dan arrives home in Brooklyn and finds Vanessa packing. She explains that she is going to stay with her parents for a little while and he agrees it is a good idea. Vanessa tells him that it's important that he knows she didn't start the rumours or send the email. Dan replies: "I believe you, I think. But that doesn't change the fact you didn't believe me." Vanessa agrees and leaves.
Meanwhile, Serena is drinking in a bar alone when the man who keeps stealing her cabs arrives. He asks why she is drinking alone and promises to tell her anything she wants if she replies. "I thought I could start over but it turns out college is just high school with more expensive books," Serena says. "There's no starting over. No matter where I go, whatever I do, my past seems to follow me." She asks why he is with a different girl every night, and he replies that he stopped apologising for his past a long time ago. Serena asks if it makes him happy, and he replies: "It did."
Juliet is on the phone to Ben, who asks why she didn't stick to the plan. Juliet replies that Vanessa was a better option, adding that she can now be Serena's confidante and find out more about her. Ben adds that he will not be impressed if Juliet was just protecting Nate and tells her not to fall for him. Juliet insists that she isn't, and Ben says: "I guess I have to trust you." Juliet replies: "I guess you do." She hangs up and heads inside, where Nate is waiting for her. She climbs on top of him and the pair begin to kiss.
The episode ends with Chuck speaking on the phone to someone. "Do you still work with Tim Gunn?" he asks. He tells her he would like her to organise an interview for someone applying to Parsons. "Her name's Jenny Humphrey," he adds.
