The episode opens with Blair arranging invitations for her birthday party. Meanwhile, Serena visits Colin to talk to him but as they chat the pair stare at each other. She decides to leave and Colin promises her that they can hold out. "Six more weeks," Serena sighs.

Eleanor arrives home and explains that she would never miss throwing Blair a birthday party, even if it is a week early. She explains that it is a shame the event will coincide with Lily and Rufus's anniversary, before giving Blair a present from Cyrus. Blair is thrilled with the gift and goes to get ready to meet Serena. Eleanor suggests that the party will be as glamorous and sophisticated as the guest of honour.

Rufus, Dan and Eric walk along the street and Dan admits that he is trying to avoid his house because Vanessa is back and has to stay because she couldn't get campus housing. He adds that he wanted to help Rufus plan for his anniversary, but Rufus admits that he and Lily have decided to order food in and have a quiet evening. He explains that it doesn't feel right to celebrate without Jenny. He goes to get some flowers for Lily and Dan explains that it would mean a lot to his dad if Jenny could come back for the celebrations. Eric suggests that Chuck could help because he loves Lily and is on their side because of the Chuck-Blair war.

Nate and Serena meet at a restaurant and Chuck and Blair arrive. Serena explains that she and Nate have decided to make the pair sign a peace treaty. Nate adds that if either of them break the agreement, they can no longer be friends with the group. Chuck and Blair agree and begin negotiating various terms. When it comes to access to stripclubs in the Outer Borough, Blair pulls Serena aside and explains that she doesn't want to cede territory too easily. She asks her to reconsider coming to her birthday party but Serena explains that she has to celebrate Lily's anniversary. Blair claims that Serena has a "sex glow" but Serena promises that she is only meeting Colin in office hours and hasn't slept with him. Blair refuses to be an accomplice, and the pair return to the table. Blair slowly pours a glass of water and drinks it, before finally agreeing to cede the stripclubs. She adds that she has one final condition to add in private and dismisses Serena and Nate. Afterwards, Chuck and Blair say goodbye outside and Chuck offers Blair his hand. However, she refuses to shake it because of article 19 of the treaty - no touching. The pair watch each other as they get into their cars.

Dan and Eric find out about the peace treaty talks on Gossip Girl and Eric complains that Chuck and Blair have ended up happier than ever while Jenny and their family are in a pile of rubble. He adds that it is the perfect time for a "stealth strike" but admits that he and Dan wouldn't be able to pull it off. Dan disagrees, explaining that he has picked up some skills while Eric comes from a long line of schemers. Eric insists that they are no match for Chuck and Blair but Dan replies: "I don't know about that."

Juliet is tracking Serena on Gossip Girl and approaches her. She spots that Serena has a book and asks if it is a birthday present for Blair, but Serena admits that it is for a professor. Juliet suggests that Serena has feelings for the professor and she admits that she has a "small crush". However, she insists that nothing is going to happen yet as she won't put her academic future at risk. Juliet suggests that guys won't wait for sex and offers to be there for advice if Serena needs it. Serena thanks her and walks away. When she has left, Serena texts Ben: "She has her eye on a professor." Serena walks over to Colin's house but spots him paying a taxi driver and a woman getting out of the cab. When they are upstairs, Serena rings Colin's bell and he buzzes her up. She drops off the book and asks: "Where is she? I know she's up here." However, Colin introduces the woman as his housekeeper. Serena apologises and explains that she is going "a little crazy". The pair agree that they are both thinking about sex and Serena suggests that they avoid seeing each other outside of class. Colin agrees but reveals that he has been invited to Blair's birthday party. Outside, Serena calls Blair and discovers that she invited the dean and anyone else she favours. Blair points out that Serena isn't coming but Serena explains that Lily's anniversary party has been cancelled. Blair refuses to listen to her worries about Colin and points out that the dean will be at the party.

Eric and Dan are working out a plan to get Jenny back into town. Dan explains that they need to break the truce between Chuck and Blair so that Chuck will be happy to help Jenny. Eric points out that Jack Bass will enrage Chuck and Dan suggests that they pretend Blair had a secret fling with Jack with a Gossip Girl blast. He adds that later he will run into Chuck and ask him to retaliate with an amnesty for Jenny. Later, Dan arrives at the Empire and suggests that because Blair betrayed Chuck, he could betray her by offering Jenny protection. However, Blair arrives and explains that they knew the Gossip Girl blast was fake because they both have enemies. "Besides, Jack Bass wasn't in France, he was in Chile," she adds. Chuck is shocked that she knew that but explains that the incident inspired them to add an addendum to their peace treaty. Dan is surprised that they have a legal document setting out the terms. Blair invites Chuck to her birthday party as a gesture of trust and adds that Dan can come because the "gothic Barbie" is still upstate. Later, Dan finds Nate and discovers that he knows about the treaty. Nate explains that he has been sworn to secrecy and adds that a guard is about to pick up the document. He adds that he doesn't know everything that is in it because Chuck and Blair made him and Serena leave the room. He leaves to go to class, and Dan picks up the treaty.

Serena calls Juliet and admits that she is worried about spending the night in the same room as Colin. Juliet offers to be her "buffer" to distract her all evening and agrees to help. Serena thanks her and Juliet promises that she has put herself in the right hands. Later, Serena finds Nate to warn him that Juliet will be at the event as her buffer. Nate suggests that she take him instead, explaining that it is better to have a guy protect her from another guy. He adds that he would rather not run into Juliet and Serena would be doing him a favour. Serena agrees and calls Juliet to tell her about the change of plans. When she has hung up, Juliet sends a text to Colin: "I need a favour."

Blair is preparing for her party but criticises one of the florists for mixing up gladiolus and cabbage roses. Eleanor arrives and explains that Lily and Rufus will be coming. Blair agrees to think of an anniversary surprise for them and asks about the guest list. Eleanor promises that "anyone who's anyone" will be at the event but warns that she spotted Chuck on the guest list and they don't need any trouble. Blair insists that they are good but Eleanor points out that she has been "berating" the staff all day. Blair explains that she just wants the party to be perfect, but shouts at Dorota when she brings over her dress. She asks what's wrong with her and Dorota explains that she isn't fighting with Chuck, so is fighting with everyone else.

Dan tells Eric about the secret clause in the peace treaty and Eric is shocked that it is not more sensational. Dan suggests that for a "birthday surprise" they just need to make some calls, but Eric is unconvinced. He points out that they shouldn't risk losing everything they have learnt like Jenny and adds: "We tried it, it didn't work. I'm out. I hope you are too." When he leaves, Dan calls someone called Rita. "I'm Dan, Rufus Humphrey's son," he says. "I hope you don't mind me calling. I've got a very good friend with a birthday party tonight and I was hoping I could get your help. Do you still work at Interscope?"

Blair is at her party and greets a number of guests, including the celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe. She meets the dean and thanks her for coming, before impressing her by revealing that she has read one of her papers. The dean suggests that they have lunch together and when she has gone, another guest approaches Blair and says: "The last girl the dean took to lunch became the CEO of Pepsi." Elsewhere, Rufus admits that he would have been happy eating out of a carton but Lily points out that although he thinks he is rock 'n' roll, he is wearing a $2,000 jacket.

Gossip Girl: S04E07 - Serena Van Der Woodsen
Meanwhile, Juliet arrives with Colin and thanks him for getting her in. "I should go before anyone sees us together," she says. Nate overhears the conversation. Serena arrives and asks Nate to distract her from her professor. Juliet appears and suggests that it is nice to see Nate and Serena having such fun together. Nate leaves, and Serena apologises if things are awkward. Juliet explains that she is not worried about Nate but asks where Serena's professor is. Serena refuses to tell her but Juliet points out that if Serena doesn't tell her, she can't protect her from him. Serena is just about to tell her when Eleanor arrives and drags off Juliet to help her with the appetisers. Blair comes over and asks why Serena was talking to Juliet. When she explains, Blair warns that Juliet is not her friend. She leaves and Serena and Colin stare at each other.

Dan comes across Rufus, Eric and Lily and is shocked to see them. He urges them to go home, suggesting that it is unlucky for them to be using china and crystal because paper is linked to the first anniversary. However, Lily and Rufus admit that they are having a good time. When they leave, Dan asks Eric why he didn't warn them that they were coming. Eric is shocked that Dan was hoping to go through with his plan and tells him to stop it before it's too late. Meanwhile, Chuck arrives at the party and compliments Blair, before asking how she knew where Jack was in the summer. Blair claims that she must have read it online but Chuck is unconvinced. Blair leaves to continue "entertaining".

Gossip Girl: S04E07 - Serena Van Der Woodsen and Nate Archibald
Elsewhere, Nate and Serena chat to someone and Nate explains that it was a good distraction. He spots her staring at someone and tells her to ignore them and recite something they learned at school. She thanks him and Lily and Rufus appear. Nate leaves them and approaches Colin. He asks: "You wouldn't happen to be Ben, would you? I saw you with Juliet and if you're the guy she left me for your name must be Ben." Colin insists that it isn't and Nate apologises. Meanwhile, Serena receives a note from Colin asking her to meet him upstairs. She excuses herself.

Colin pulls Juliet into the kitchen and asks if she has been seeing Ben. Juliet begs him not to talk about it now because they can't be seen together. Meanwhile, Blair finds Nate and explains that she needs a drink. They head towards the kitchen but discover Colin and Juliet talking. Nate claims that Juliet must have broken up with him for Colin and Blair reveals that Serena is dating him too. She leaves to go and warn Serena. Meanwhile, Nate approaches Juliet and explains that if she left him for that guy she can tell him. Juliet explains that Colin is her cousin and the reason they are keeping it a secret is because he's a teacher and she's a student.

Dorota is giving a speech about Blair, who kisses her on the cheek. Suddenly, another woman introduces herself as Rita. "I'd also like to salute the birthday girl," she says. "And I brought some special friends to help me with the toast, or should I say roast?" The musician Robyn arrives and Blair looks concerned. Dan finds Eric and explains that he tried to call Rita but her phone was off, and Eric points out that she is busy. Rita announces that Robyn was able to bring along a special video of Blair and begins playing a tape of Blair drunkenly singing 'Stand By Your Man' in Stockholm. Dan looks on sadly, while Blair yells "no" and tries to run to the front. As she does so, she knocks over Rachel Zoe. Rachel insists that she is fine but as she tries to get up, she tips chocolate sauce all over herself. "I die," she says.

Gossip Girl: S04E07 - Lily Van Der Woodsen and Rufus Humphrey
Later, as Robyn performs, Blair asks Rita how she could bring the video. Rita insists that "he said it was a roast" and Blair immediately assumes Chuck was involved. She approaches him and asks why he did it. "Because I knew Jack was in Chile?" she asks. "I found out because I was desperate for news of you. All summer when I was pretending not to care I wanted to know where you were. I paid a private eye to look but the only Bass he got was your scaly uncle." Chuck insists that he had nothing to do with this but Blair accuses him of lying, adding that Serena and Nate had no motive. Dan arrives and admits that he set it up. "My sister doesn't feel safe to live in her own house or be with her parents on their anniversary," he explains. "She was a different person before she met the two of you." Nate points out that this is about Dan getting revenge and complains that he went behind his back to get it. Dan agrees but adds: "They deserve what they get. I'm not sorry." However, Rufus appears and says: "I'm the one who's sorry. I'm sorry you've become one of them."

Upstairs, Serena and Colin meet. Colin admits that he doesn't think he can make it six weeks and Serena suggests that staying away from each other is hard because it's not what they should be doing. "I really want this, but not here," she adds. Meanwhile, Juliet calls Ben and reveals that Serena's professor is their cousin. "He has no idea what we're doing," she says. "If he finds out we lose everything." She adds that she needs Colin because he pays for her school and rent. Ben explains that they need Serena to get caught with her professor - whoever he is - and asks Juliet if she got proof. Juliet admits that she hasn't and adds that Colin has no idea Serena is the one "responsible". "It's because she's responsible that you have to do this," Ben tells her. "It's the only way to make things right, for our family to move home. Please get proof and get Serena expelled."

Blair is sitting in the kitchen after the party and Eleanor hands her the DVD of her singing, explaining that it is Robyn's only copy. Blair admits that she is mortified but Eleanor points out that a good party gives people what they don't expect. Blair admits that seeing Rachel Zoe dipped in chocolate "wasn't boring", but admits that she wants to feel like a powerful woman and feels like a "weak little girl" around Chuck. Eleanor explains that sometimes you have to be weak to let yourself grow stronger. "You don't have to lose the girl to be a woman," she says. "You just need to think about how many people are going to be around next time you let her out."

Lily and Rufus arrive home and Lily points out that it was just a karaoke video and no-one got hurt. Rufus admits that he is worried about Dan and adds that he doesn't want to lose both his children to the Upper East Side. They turn on the lights and discover that the apartment has been filled with paper flowers. Eric explains that it was all Dan's idea and Rufus suggests that there is a "little Humphrey left in that kid". Meanwhile, Dan arrives home to Vanessa and explains that he wrecked Blair's birthday, betrayed Nade and disappointed his dad. He adds that it was Blair's 20th birthday party but he is still acting like an eighth grader. Vanessa tells him he just needs rest and some time in Brooklyn. Dan thanks her for being there and she explains: "We've been friends forever - that's not going to change." Dan's phone rings and he picks it up, apologising to his father. However, his dad explains that he liked the flowers.

Serena and Colin arrive at Colin's apartment but Serena admits that she likes him too much to go further right now. "The old me would have gone further," she says. "The new me wants to wait." Colin explains that he likes the new Serena and says that it is good they stopped themselves before they messed everything up. They kiss, but Juliet watches the window from outside. "Something to look forward to," Serena smiles, and leaves.

The episode ends when Blair begins turning out the lights in her home. She spots Chuck and asks what he is still doing there. "I wanted to let you know the treaty is over," he says. Blair admits that the "pretence of civility was exhausting", while Chuck explains that friends have to like each other. "After what happened tonight I could never like you," he adds. The pair both say that they hate each other. "So it's settled," Blair says, and Chuck replies: "We're settled." He tears up the treaty before grabbing her face. He kisses her roughly and pulls her onto a table, where they have sex.
