Earlier this week, the actress suggested that she will stop playing Blair Waldorf when her contract expires in two years.
However, Meester told Access Hollywood that her comments had been misinterpreted.
"It's nothing magical," she said. "Someone asked me the other day, 'What do you see after Gossip Girl - when does it end?' and I said, 'I guess in a couple years, that's when my contract is up'.
"Nothing crazy. Things come to an end and I honestly don't know what's going to happen. I love being on the show, so I can't predict the future."
Gossip Girl returns for a new episode on January 24 on The CW.
