McCarthy joins 'Gossip Girl' spinoff

Former Lipstick Jungle star Andrew McCarthy has reportedly signed on for The CW's Gossip Girl spinoff, says The Hollywood Reporter.

McCarthy is set to play Lily Rhodes' father Rick Rhodes, a music company executive.

The series - centered around a teenage Lily living in 1980s Los Angeles - sees her move in with her sister in the San Fernando Valley after arguing with her parents.

McCarthy, a former '80s movie star, has previously appeared in Lipstick Jungle, Pretty In Pink and Less Than Zero.

It was recently announced that Krysten Ritter is to play Lily's sister Carol.
