Boarding school spinoff for 'Gossip Girl'

The producers of Gossip Girl are planning a spinoff series set in a girls' boarding school, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Plans are at an early stage but it is thought Taylor Momsen, who plays Jenny Humphrey, could lead the spinoff. Otherwise a new character may be introduced to Gossip Girl, then later moved to the proposed series.

The inspiration is said to be The It Girl, a set of seven novels spun-off from the Gossip Girl book series. The stories see socially-challenged Humphrey sent to boarding school where she reinvents herself as trendy and popular.

The CW network, the US home of Gossip Girl, has not yet commented on whether it would want a spinoff series.
