Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor, left the show in 2008 after its seventh season. However, executive producer Brian Peterson recently admitted that he would like the actor to return.
Tom Welling has now claimed at Comic-Con that Rosenbaum could reprise his role in a future episode.
According to E! Online, he said: "I know he's thinking about it. I know he knows that we want him and we don't feel like we can end without it."
Smallville will return for a new season on September 24 on The CW.
