Paul 'Pauly D' DelVecchio has dismissed rumours that MTV is planning to recast Jersey Shore following the show's fifth season, insisting that the current lineup is irreplaceable.

Earlier this week, it was rumoured that the network were planning to introduce a new Jersey Shore cast for season six, allowing its stars to move on to other projects.

However, MTV quickly released a statement confirming they have no plans to recast the show, and that they enjoy working with the current lineup.

"I don't think it's true," Pauly D told Fox News. "I don't think you can replace us because we all have our own personalities and it's not replaceable."

The cast recently completed filming season four of Jersey Shore in Italy, and are already preparing to film the fifth season back in New Jersey.

"We went straight from Italy to Jersey," DelVecchio explained. "I made a pit-stop in Vegas to do my thing really quick and then I'll meet them and go to the house."

When asked how the cast coped during their stay in Italy, he simply said: "Amazing women, amazing food, it was a great place to visit."

Jersey Shore will return for its fourth season on MTV on August 3.
