The broadcaster has stated that the two-hour special, which has been shot on location in South Africa, features Jack Bauer battling an "international crisis" while America is to have a new President to follow Wayne Palmer.
24's executive producer Howard Gordon stated: "We're excited about the prequel because it explores Jack's complex emotional state of mind and still has all the signature excitement and suspense that fans have come to expect from 24. Shooting in South Africa affirms everyone's commitment to making this season especially memorable for our fans."
The movie will be shown on Sunday, November 23, ahead of the seventh season's debut in January 2009. Eight episodes were originally filmed for broadcast at the start of 2008, but the advent of the writers' strike caused delays and the producers were adamant that all 24 episodes must be shown without a long hiatus.
