12.00am: Victor Rovner transmits a message from Kuala Lumpur with details of an attempt on Senator David Palmer's life.
12.02am: Agent Richard Walsh is alerted of the attempt while attending a dinner party.
12.03am: Senator David Palmer writes his speech for the breakfast he's attending the following morning while in Jack Bauer's house, he plays chess with his daughter, Kim. She's glad that he's moved back in. Teri and Jack decide to tell Kim that she can't continue to behave the way she is doing. The pair go to her room but find that she's disappeared out of her bedroom window. Jack received a call from Jack’s chief-of-staff, Nina Myers, at the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) calling him in for an urgent meeting. On his way to the office, Jack calls Kim's ex-boyfriend, Vincent - he doesn't know where he is either.
12.07am: Kim and her friend, Janet York, are heading to a furniture store to meet two boys, Dan and Rick.
12.09am: Jack arrives at CTU, calling Teri on his way in. Teri suggests they take Kim to a psychotherapist. In the office, Jack instructs Tony Almeida to gather information on Senator David Palmer – he suspects the senator is the reason for Walsh's visit. Elsewhere, Kim and Janet turn up at the furniture store to meet boys they have arranged to meet.
12.12am: Jack contacts his friend Frank and asks him to be on the lookout for his daughter. Meanwhile, Walsh arrived at CTU and tells the team that there's more than likely going to be an attempt on Senator Palmer's life. Walsh keeps Jack behind and tells him in strictest of confidence that there's probably an element within the agency that's involved in the attempt on the Senator. Jack is the only person Walsh can trust. He instructs Jack that he can trust nobody – not even his own people.
12.23am: Meanwhile, up in the skies, Martin Belkin, a famous foreign photographer, calls Palmer's campaign manager Patty Brooks to confirm his meeting with Palmer at the breakfast later the same day. The woman say next to him, Mandy, is intrigued by the conversation and starts to ask questions.
12.26am: Back in CTU, Nina is inquisitive over what Walsh wanted Jack for. She's stunned not to be involved in a meeting with District Director George Mason. Teri calls Jack to let him know that she's found three joints in Kimberly's desk drawers. Jack suggests they should log in to Kim's e-mails, but there's a password on the account. Kim starts to open up to Rick and tells him that her father is dead.
12.28am: George Mason arrives to speak with Jack. He wants to know what Walsh spoke to him about. George tells Jack that he has data on the Palmer situation but won't tell him its original source. Not giving up, Jack asks George to make a phone call to his boss to gain authorisation to reveal the original source of the data. Jack taps in to the call and hears George listening to the talking clock. Jack grabs a tranquiliser gun to knock George out and tells Nina to search the databases for bank details on the heroin dealer Phillipe Darcet in Barcelona - $200,000 was missing and Jack thinks George has it and sees the money as blackmail material to elicit information from George.
12.39am: Alan York, the father of Kim's friend Janet, calls Teri – he is looking for his daughter, too. Nina locates the bank details but they're encrypted. She asks Tony to hack into Darcet's bank account. Toni, however, is puzzled as to whether Nina is still sleeping with Jack. Evading the question, Nina convinces him to pursue the account. Jack asks Jamey to look up all the passwords connected to a phone number – his phone number. Kim's password to her e-mail is 'Lifesucks'. In the furniture store, Kim kisses Rick but find Janet and Dan in bed together.
12.43am: Up on the plane, Mandy continues to ask questions of Martin. It's evident there's chemistry between them. On the ground, Senator Palmer receives a call from Maureen Kingsley at the Network. He's not best pleased with the allegations he hears and brushes off and questions from his wife, Sherry about the conversation.
12.49am: Jack calls Walsh while Nina starts to worry about Jack – he's started to break the law by breaking in to confidential files. Jack tells her that he's not going to compromise himself – he knows what he's doing. Teri calls Alan about an e-mail on Kim's computer. They decide to go out to try and find their girls. Kim looks at her phone and sees five missed calls on her phone. She tells the lads she wants to go home.
12.52am: Martin and Mandy have sex in the airplane toilet. Back at CTU, Tony informs Jack that he's hacked in to the Darcet account – the money's there. When Jack threatens George that he'll reveal the information to a higher rank, he relents and types in his source. On the plane, Mandy injects an air hostess with a tranquiliser and removed a key card from Martin's wallet which she stole. She sets about preparing for her mission. She puts on a jumpsuit and takes a bomb out of the plane's fire extinguisher. Just before the plane blows, she ejects herself out of the plan, landing safely.
12.57am: Jack calls Teri only to hear she's in a car with Alan York heading to the Valley. He loses contact with her and starts to worry and so heads out to find her. Before he steps out of the office, Tony tells him that a plan has blown up over the Mojave Desert – early indications say that the plane was bombed. Down in the Valley, Dan ignores Kim's directions to her house – she soon starts to realise that things aren't quite what they seem.
