Spears dismisses 'Idol' appearance

Britney Spears has dismissed speculation that she will be performing on the finale of American Idol.

According to US reports, the 'Womanizer' star had been lined up to make a special appearance on Wednesday night's show, which will see Adam Lambert and Kris Allen competing to be crowned the season eight winner.

However, representatives for the singer have since confirmed to Perez Hilton that the rumours are untrue.

Other celebrities who will be performing on the night include Lionel Richie, Carlos Santana, Black Eyed Peas, Cyndi Lauper, Queen Latifiah and Keith Urban, while former Idol winners David Cook and Carrie Underwood will also be present.
