'Idol' finale tied for lowest ratings
The last episode of American Idol’s eighth season narrowly missed being the lowest rated finale in the show’s history.

According to E! the competition's final tied with 2004's climax when Fantasia Barrino triumphed.

An estimated 28.84 million viewers tuned into the watch Kris Allen beat Adam Lambert to the winner's prize, according to Nielsen data.

However, Idol did hold up well against its competition with its final show coming in first place for the week.
