The legendary musician performed with Lambert during last week's season finale, sparking rumours that he had invited the aspiring rocker to be the band's new lead singer, following the departure of Paul Rodgers.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, May said: "Amongst all that furore, there wasn’t really a quiet moment to talk. But [drummer Roger Taylor] and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point.
"It’s not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn’t that easy. But I’d certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there.”
Queen are not the first group to have expressed an interest in Lambert - last week, KISS frontman Gene Simmons admitted that he would be more than happy for the 27-year-old to join the band on tour.
