The fourth American Idol judge made the comment on an episode of The View, according to ABC News.
During the taped segment, to air today, she said that she has no doubts that this season's runner-up is out as a gay man.
"I don't think that Adam Lambert was ever in [the closet]," she said. "I think he was always openly out."
DioGuardi was asked by the show’s co-host Barbara Walters if the perception about his sexuality prevented him winning the singing competition.
"Well, first of all, I hope not... because we should be judging on talent and viability in the music industry and both [finalists] had that," she said.
Lambert lost out to Kris Allen for the coveted title of American Idol champion last week. He has since said that people will have to "keep speculating" about his sexuality.
