The American Idol runner-up will make the declaration in the next issue of the magazine, according to the New York Post.
"He didn't want it to be an issue during the contest, but he's fine with his sexuality," a source said.
Idol judge Kara DioGuardi recently told chatshow The View that she does not think that Lambert was "ever in the closet" and that "he was always openly out" .
The finalist has been coy with the media regarding his sexuality, saying that people can "keep speculating" .
A rep for Rolling Stone said: "We don't comment on future covers."
