Published Wednesday, Nov 24 2004, 03:21 GMT | By Neil Wilkes

The singer, who took the second season crown in 2003, will remain at the hospital in Birmingham, Alabama for the remainder of the week as per doctors' orders.
Studdard had been undertaking a blitz of publicity opportunities for his second album I Need an Angel, released Tuesday. Now he has been forced to cancel concert dates in Atlantic City on November 26 and 27, as well as a number of interviews and other gigs planned for the next few days.
News of his illness comes just weeks after he decided to quit a diet backed by TV show Extra for "lack of time."
